Earth Day Rant

Well, it appears I’m about to talk politics in an angry and frustrated tone. If you don’t want to hear it move along. This is my corner of the internet and I can say what I want.

This is my favorite Disney song.

Yesterday was the science march and also Earth Day. I’m so happy to see that people care, but it still makes me Hulk-out that a lot of people don’t. Not just about the planet and global warming, but about each other and the important issues we face everyday. It makes me so angry that the people in charge only care about money and power when it’s their fucking job to make this country great for everyone.

Some people might say it’s always been this way and it always will be. No. Shut up. Nothing has to be any way. We are intelligent beings capable of extraordinary things, but we settle way too easily. We say things like “boys will be boys” to excuse rapists, and “power corrupts” to explain our government’s abject failure to serve it’s inherit purpose, and then we crack a beer and watch Netflix until our brains melt. Look at countries in Europe; ending the drug war; lowering rates of gun violence; maintaining peace, and safety, and civil liberty – all at the same time! Don’t pretend it’s not possible! Don’t act like we’re done evolving. Don’t act like this is good enough. Maybe things are easy for you but look around, look down, who is that person in the gutter that makes it possible for your life to be easy and convenient?

It makes me angry how easy it would be to create the policies that could save lives and take care of our home planet if only people cared enough. If only people would stop letting greed, selfishness, and outdated beliefs govern their political behavior. I get that it’s hard to admit when you’re wrong, but for fuck’s sake there is too much on the line for people to feign ignorance anymore. And don’t get me started about our school system! If we had proper education people wouldn’t fall so easily for the lies and propaganda pumped out by the government and corporations. God forbid the masses be aware of the joke being had at their expense.

“When the last tree is cut, the last fish is caught, and the last river is polluted; when to breathe the air is sickening, you will realize, too late, that wealth is not in bank accounts and that you can’t eat money.” – Alanis Obomsawin

If you didn’t know, I love nature. My favorite place is in the forest. (Which will all be condos, and Walmarts, and vile toxic filth if Trump has his way)
